In every neighborhood of the city, on different days and in different streets, you can find open air markets dedicated to foodstuffs and clothing. To learn when and where you can find a market close to your house, all you need to do it ask a neighbor or one of the shopkeepers in your area. If you ask a woman with a certain age, surely you will get very detailed information.
In addition to offering fresh food at a good price, in the neighborhood markets you can find real gourmet specialty products from other regions of Italy: fresh mozzarella that arrive every day from Campania or Puglia, lunchmeats from all over Italy, olives, different types of bread...
The largest (and most visited) market of this kind is definitely the market in Via Papiniano (Metro Line 2 S. Agostino Station). It is always packed because it offers clothing and shoes- often brand name- at very low prices.
The market is on Tuesday from 8:30 to 13:00 and on Saturday from 8:30 to 17:00.

There are also “covered” city markets (not open air). Like the open air markets, these markets offer foodstuffs at low prices. In some, it is possible to find fruit and produce that come from other continents.
For example, the city market in Piazza XXIV Maggio (Area Navigli) sells fresh fruit and vegetables from Central and South America.

On certain days of the month, there are also markets specializing in different products, especially antiques




Mercatino Centro Commerciale Bonola

A flea market put on every Sunday in the parking area of this shopping center in the Northwest Area of Milan. You can easily get to it by the Metro (Line 1- Red Direction Rho-Pero).
Here you can find dealers in old furniture, some antique items, pins, jewelry and a little bit of everything.

On the last sunday of every month, along the Naviglio grande (Great Canal), there is the Antique Market. Here you can find every type of antique: not only furniture, but books, ethnic and period jewelry, photography and art prints, plus various “retro” items.
Even if you don’t have a great passion for such things, take a walk there one Sunday morning. After having a nice leisurely breakfast with a newspaper, I like to lose myself among the stands. It is also a wonderful chance to enter and admire the courtyards of the old Milanese “ringhiera” houses, often charmingly “delapidated”
The market is a short distance from the station of Porta Genova (Metro Line 2- Green)

Since 1995, the simply curious and true fans of old and antique books can visit this market which occurs the second Sunday of every month, except July and August.

This “second hand” market is put on every Sunday in viale Puglia, between Piazzale Bologna and Piazzale Cuoco. In the same location, for a little more than a year, there is also a farmers’ market where producers sell their foodstuffs directly to the consumer

This is one of the largest antique markets in Lombardy. It is held every Sunday all year long (except August).
The fastest way to get to Bollate from Milan is to take one of the many trains which leave from Cadorna Station, Ferrovie Nord.



Mercatino di San Donato Milanese

This market is held every Sunday from 5:00 to 14:00. You can find everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.
Here you won’t breathe in the typical Italian atmosphere. Literally the air is full of the smells of Middle Eastern and South American spices which season the food sold at the various stands.
The people who come from these countries mix together and fill this market. Unfortunately, sometimes someone happens to get their wallet or purse stolen... So watch out!
If you love exotic colors and smells, go and take a look.
Metro Line 3 (Yellow) will take you to San Donato. The market is above the metro station.


In ogni quartiere della città, in diversi giorni della settimana e in vie differenti, si possono trovare mercati all'aperto dedicati ai generi alimentari e all'abbigliamento. Per sapere in quali vie e in quali giorni potete trovare un mercato vicino a casa vostra, basta chiedere a qualche abitante o a qualche negoziante. Se chiedete ad una donna di una certa età, sicuramente vi darà informazioni dettagliate...
Oltre ad offrire cibo fresco ad un prezzo conveniente, nei mercati di zona potete trovare vere e proprie specialità gastronomiche di altre regioni: mozzarelle freschissime che ogni giorno arrivano dalla Campania o dalla Puglia, salumi da tutta italia, olive, diversi tipi di pane...
Il mercato più frequentato di questo tipo è sicuramente il mercato di Via Papiniano (linea 2 fermata S.Agostino), sempre affollatissimo perchè offre abbigliamento e scarpe - anche firmati - a prezzo bassissimo.
Si svolge il martedì dalle 8.30 alle 13.00 e il sabato dalle 8.30 alle 17.00.

Esistono poi i mercati comunali coperti. Anche questi mercati offrono cibo a prezzi convenienti. In alcuni si possono trovare frutta e verdura proveniene dagli altri continenti.
Per esempio, il mercato comunale di Piazza XXIV Maggio (zona Navigli) vende frutta e verdura fresca dal centro e sud America.


In particolari giorni del mese, ci sono diversi mercati specializzati, soprattutto in antiquariato.


Mercatino Centro Commerciale Bonola

Mercato delle Pulci che si svolge ogni domenica nel parcheggio del Centro Commerciale nella Zona Nord-Ovest di Milano. Potete facilmente raggiungerlo con la linea 1 della metropolitana direzione Rho-Pero.
Qui potete trovare venditori di mobili vecchi, qualche pezzo di antiquariato, spille e gioielli e di tutto un po'...

Naviglio Grande, dalla Darsena sino a via Ludovico il Moro

L'ultima domenica di ogni mese, lungo il Naviglio grande c'è il bel mercato dell'antiquartiato.
Si possono trovare antichita di ogni tipo: non solo mobili, ma libri, gioielli d'epoca ed etnici, fotografie e stampe, pezzi vari di modernariato.
Anche se non siete appassionati di queste cose, fate una passeggiata qui la domenica mattina. a me piace molto concedermi una buona colazione e lettura di un quotidiano prima di immergermi nelle bancarelle. E' anche un'ottima occasione per entrare nei cortili delle vecchie case di ringhiera ed ammirarli, spesso nel loro fascino un po' decadente.
E' a pochi passi dalla fermata Porta Genova della linea 2 della metropolitana.

Dal 1995 i curiosi e gli appassionati di libri antichi possono visitare questo mercatino che si svolge la seconda domenica di ogni mese, tranne luglio e agosto.

Mercato dell'usato che si svolge tutte le domeniche in viale Puglie, tra Piazzale Bologna e Piazzale Cuoco.
Da poco meno di un anno, nello stesso posto, ogni domenica si svolge anche il mercato agricolo/farmers’ market per la vendita di prodotti agroalimentari direttamente dal produttore al consumatore.

E' uno dei mercatini di antiquariato più grandi che si svolgono in Lombardia. Si tiene tutte le domeniche dell'anno, escluso agosto.
Il modo più veloce per raggiungere Bollate da Milano è prendere uno dei tanti treni in partenza dalla Stazione Cadorna, Ferrovie Nord.


Mercatino di San Donato Milanese

Si svolge tutte le domeniche dalle 5 alle 14,00. Si trova di tutto, ma proprio di tutto...
In questo mercatino non si respira un'aria tipicamente italiana, anche nel vero senso della parola. L'aria è piena di profumi di spezie mediorientali e sud americane che insaporiscono i cibi venduti nelle diverse bancarelle. Anche le persone provenienti da questi ed altri paesi, si mescolano affollando incredibilmente il mercato.
Purtroppo capita anche che tra tutta questa folla a qualcuno venga rubato il portafoglio...
Ma se amate questi colori e questi profumi, andate a fare un giro!
La linea 3 della metropolitana vi porta fino a San Donato. Il mercato si trova sopra la fermata della metro.
